One of Tennis top talents Roger Federer is now the highest-paid athlete in Forbes’ annual earnings report. His earnings have now surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who have held the No. 1 spot in the past years.
Federer earned $106 million pre-tax. This has removed Ronaldo out of the no. 1 spot.
The report informs us that Federer is the first tennis player in Forbes 30-year history of ranking athlete earnings to land a No. 1 spot. A majority of his income has come off the tennis court, as Federer made $100 million in endorsement deals from Uniqlo, Credit Sussie, Mercedes-Benz and 10 additional partners.
In previous endorsement deals Cristiano Ronaldo made $45 million in endorsements from big companies like Nike, and his own CR7 brand.
Lionel Messi has made $32 million from Adidas, MasterCard and PepsiCo.
With Federer now holding the No. 1 spot, Ronaldo now holds the number 2 spot and Messi holds the number 3 spot. Neymar holds the number 4 spot followed by NBA players LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.
Well known Golf sensation, Tiger woods, is in the top 10 currently holding the 8th spot. Tiger took home $60 million in endorsement deals and 2.3 million in winnings.
According to Forbes, this is the first time in four years that the income for the world’s top athletes has decreased. All together the top 100 highest-paid athletes earned a combined $3.6 billion this year. This years pay is 9% below the previous years earnings.
